1. Paper plate ice cream cone craft

They can add as many scoops and sprinkles as they like to this dream treat

You’ll need:

  • a paper plate
  • scissors
  • crayons
  • tissue paper
  • kitchen roll (or similar to stuff the ice cream)
  • glue
  • sequins

What to do:

  1. Help to cut the paper plate in half.
  2. Ask your child to colour it orange with their crayons. Help them to roll and tape it in a cone shape.
  3. Make the ball of ice cream. Scrunch pieces of kitchen roll and cover them in colourful tissue paper. Tape in place.
  4. Snip a chocolate flake from the other half of the plate and colour it in. The rim of the plate provides a nice texture.
  5. Now for the fun bit… your child stuffs the cone with ice cream, gluing as they go. Then they push in the flake and glue on sequin sprinkles.
  6. We also made cherries by rolling and twisting tissue paper.

That’s it! A word of warning, you will HAVE to eat ice cream after making this.

2 Easy-peasy paper plate seagull

A clever snip transforms a plate into this beach buddy

You’ll need:

  • a paper plate
  • scissors
  • paint (or crayons)
  • glue
  • googly eyes

What to do:

  1. Fold the plate in half. Draw two lines that suggest the shape of a seagull’s head and neck. Draw from the rim of the plate down to the fold.
  2. Open out the plate. Cut down along the lines you drew (without cutting off any part of the plate). This will  create the neck and body, plus two wings, which you can now fold back down. Paint the wings grey.
  3. Stick on a card beak,  feet and googly eyes to add the finishing touch.

3. Watermelon paper plate craft
