5 ways with a loo roll

Create these cute crafts using spare loo roll

Images and words: Sara Conway

You’ll need: cardboard tubes, paint, coloured paper, scissors, glue, googly eyes

1 Go go car: this quick make is faster than a supercar!

  1. Help your child to snip a little bit from the middle of the tube. (This is where the driver sits)
  2. Now they paint the tube a fast car colour (like racing red!).
  3. Once dry, they snip and stick black paper wheels, paint on go faster stripes and add a lucky number.

2 Curly wurly snake: this craft is really ssssimple to make

  1. Your child paints the tube a snakey colour.
  2. Once dry, they paint some snakey patterns (zigzags, stripes or spots).
  3. When that dries, they cut down from the top of the tube in a spiral.
  4. Finally, add a paper tongue and googly eyes.

3 Purrfect cat: it only takes half a loo roll to make this furry friend

  1. Cut the tube in half (they can use the other half for the pig, if you like).
  2. Now your child paints it a cat colour.
  3. Once dry, they add paper ears, paws, whiskers and a tail.
  4. Then they draw on a cute cat’s face and add googly eyes.

4 This owl thing: you’ll have a hoot making this!

  1. Fold in the top of the tube and push down so you create two ears.
  2. Now your child paints it a good owl colour.
  3. Once dry, they pop on googly eyes.
  4. And then they paint wings, feathers, a beak and claws.

5 Little piggy: use ‘hog roll’ to create this cute pig

  1. Cut the tube in half (they can use the other half to make the cat).
  2. Now your child paints it piggy pink.
  3. Once dry, they add pink paper ears, googly eyes and a button nose.
  4. Then they snip into the tube to create front trotters.
  5. For the tail, they twist paper to make it curl.
