Season's eatings!

These treats are simple enough for every age group to get involved

Season's eatings!
by Jessica Boyle

This step-by-step biscuit Christmas tree recipe uses just icing pens and cake decorations, so it's perfect for preschoolers and toddlers.

We've used shop-bought biscuits in our recipe, but if you'd like to bake them yourself, we recommend this easy biscuit recipe from BBC Good Food – don't forget you'll need to use a triangle-shaped biscuit cutter.

Ingredients

  • Triangle-shaped plain biscuits
  • Green icing pen
  • Colourful sprinkles
  • Edible silver balls

Method

Step 1

Give your child a green icing pen so they can squeeze lots of green onto each  biscuit. It doesn't need to be neat.

Step 2

Now, they can sprinkle on hundreds and thousands. If you have them, add edible silver balls for little baubles. So simple!

Learning guide

After your child has had fun getting creative, and using their maths skills to measure out the ingredients, have a chat with them about real Christmas trees and what they smell and feel like. They'll also meet lots of triangles in this recipe, so challenge them to find other triangle shapes around the house or out and about – how does these triangles compare to their triangular biscuits?
