We're batty about this eggbox craft that will give your home a spooky makeover for Halloween. Hang the bats up using a bit of ribbon or string, then dangle them from lights, on the windows or outside your front door.

Scroll down to find out how snipping and painting is perfect for your child's fine motor skills!

You'll need

  • Egg box
  • Black paint
  • Googly eyes
  • Ribbon or string
  • Scissors

How to make this bat craft

Step 1

Cut a strip of 3 joined cups from the egg box. Cut scalloped edges on the outer 2 to make wings.

Step 2

Now, your kids can paint the whole thing black.

Step 3

When it’s dry, they add googly eyes.

Step 4

Make 2 cuts in the top of the middle cup, so they can thread some ribbon or string.

Step 5

Hang them up by your window or outside your front door.

Learning guide

The physical elements of this activity, like the cutting, painting and threading, will get your child using all the different muscles in their hands and fingers, helping them to develop their fine motor skills. (They'll need these for pencil control as they're learning to write). While you're crafting, talk to your little one about bats and other creatures that come awake at night. You could even have a go at making this toilet roll owl!
