Super snazzy snake craft
by Natalie Keeler

This super snake craft is perfect for rainy days. Let your child get creative and ask them how they'd like to decorate their snake – we've added spots to ours, but they might prefer stripes, zigzags, or something else.

You will need:

  • Toilet paper roll tubes
  • Paint
  • Googly eyes
  • Scissors

How to make this toilet paper roll snake

Step 1

Ask your child to paint the tube a 'snakey' colour, like green

Step 2

Once dry, they paint some 'snakey' patterns (zigzags, stripes or spots).

Step 3

When that dries, cut down from the top of the tube in a spiral.

Step 4

Finally, add a paper tongue and googly eyes.

Learning guide

Did you know the physical elements of this make (cutting, sticking and painting) all help develop your little one's fine motor skills? While you're crafting, talk to your child about different colours in the animal kingdom. Can they group animals by colour? Why have they chosen to paint their snake that specific colour? Explaining their choices helps them learn how to express their feelings and needs.
