We're often asked if it's ok to give pins to young children. We say, you know your child better than us. But, if they're still at the stage of putting things in their mouths, you should definitely avoid any sharp objects.

You will need:

  • A corkboard
  • Toy mallet/hammer
  • Push pins
  • Wool

How to play

Step 1

Give your child the corkboard and pins to create a shape – they can use a toy mallet to hammer them down.

Step 2

Now, challenge your child to tie the pins together using wool. We made letters and a spider's web! What will your child create?

Learning guide

Did you know, getting little fingers moving is one of the best ways to improve a child's handwriting? It helps develop the muscles in their hands, which they'll need as they learn how to hold a pencil. This idea is also a fun way to spark their creativity, as they think about the different shapes and letters they'd like to make using the pins and wool.
