How to make chocolate Rice Krispie cakes
by Natalie Keeler

Not just for Easter, chocolate Rice Krispie cakes are a firm favourite with us – they're simple, and they taste so good! We've tried and tested this recipe, so you can make it with confidence.

The only difficult bit is trying not to eat them all once you've put your child to bed.

Ingredients

  • 100g puffy rice
  • 200g chocolate
  • Mini chocolate eggs
Mini-eggs can be a choking risk for children under 3, but any treat will work, like Smarties or Jelly Tots.

While your child was having fun making this recipe, little did they know they were witnessing the science of melting chocolate, learning measuring skills, and using their creativity to decorate the cakes! Before you melt the chocolate, can your child guess what might happen to it as it heats up? What about when you put the cakes in the fridge to set? Get them involved in the physical aspects of the recipe too, like the mixing and dolloping stages.
