Is your plastic recycling overflowing with milk bottles? We're with you! Try reusing them for these fun milk carton crafts. Keep your children busy making an elephant, monster, unicorn - or all three!

1. Cute unicorn craft: make a pot from a milk bottle

What you’ll need: 

  • 4-pint milk bottle
  • scissors
  • white paint
  • paintbrush
  • 4 small colourful pompoms
  • pink felt
  • glue
  • black pen

What to do:

  1. Draw a line halfway up the bottle. Repeat on the other side but this time add two little ears. Snip along the lines you have drawn. Put the top half of the bottle to one side. You can use this to make the elephant below.
  2. Ask your child to paint the bottom half of the bottle. While that dries, snip two little half circles from the pink felt, to glue inside the ears. Cut a strip from the remaining felt and roll it into a cone to create the horn.
  3. Glue on the pompoms, ears and horn as shown below.
  4. Draw on eyes and a nose. And then decide what to keep inside! Makes a great pen pot, plant pot of jewellery box.

2. Amazing monster make

What you’ll need: 

  • 4-pint milk bottle
  • scissors
  • paint
  • paintbrush
  • pink, orange and white card
  • 3 googly eyes (they don’t have to be the same size)
  • large pom pom
  • glue

What to do:

  1. Pinch a bit of the front of the bottle and make a snip. Use this opening to cut out a massive monster mouth.
  2. Ask your child to paint the bottle. Give it some monster spots!
  3.  Ask your child to draw monster claws, feet and horns on the coloured card. And then cut them out. Meanwhile, draw and cut out teeth to fit the mouth shape your have cut out.
  4. Glue everything to the monster, including the pom pom and googly eyes. 
  5. Play a game with your monster. Can you child throw their socks inside his mouth?

3. How to create an elephant out of a milk bottle

What you’ll need: 

  • 4-pint milk bottle
  • scissors
  • paint
  • a paintbrush
  • gems
  • a pom pom
  • medium googly eyes
  • glue
  • a purple pen

What to do:

  1. Draw a line around the top third of the bottle. Include a half circle break at each side. This will form the shape of the elephant and the legs. Snip along the lines you have drawn.
  2. Ask your child to paint the bottle. 
  3. Next, can they put glue on the milk bottle lid and cover it with shiny gems or sequins? 
  4. Once everything’s dry, screw the lid on the bottle. Ask your child to glue on the eyes and pom pom. Draw an ear to add the finishing touch.
